Help! PV experts on hotels

Hi,
We are flying into PV, spending one night, then driving to El Careyes for 5 nights, returning to PV for our final night before flying home. I'm looking for a hotel probably in town or south of town for the first night and perhaps something else for the last night? I need some opinions. We won't get in until 5:00pm on a Friday so something relatively easy to get into would be nice. We will have more time on the final night and our flight out isn't until 5:40 pm. Any ideas???

hi, PeggyE, another regular poster, Butsey, highly recommended the Marriott. It does look nice, though it's in the Marina, but very easy to get to from the airport.
If you want something really special, check out Hacienda San Angel...looks wonderful. Want to try it when we're without kids!
Also, Dreams, the former Camino Real, is in a fantastic location, and it's getting better reviews now that the changeover to an AI has been in place for awhile. Stayed there 2 years ago, and it was very nice -- wonderful ambiance.
Hope you enjoy El Careyes!

What kind of price range and type of hotel are you interested in?

The Casa Magna Marriott is a great choice in The Marina area which is close to the airport. It's a beautiful high-end resort property.

My favorites in downtown and the south of town are local 3-stars in the $40-75 range. They are friendly, funky and fun but not sure what kind of ammenities you're seeking.

Any price range will do (within reason!) Dreams does not book single nights since it is AI. Any time we travel I want it to be a special experience even if it is for one night. Perhaps the Marriott would be good for the first night & then someplace where we could walk to Los Muertos (?) beach & restaurants the last night. Quaint but safe. Thank you so much!!

Actually my worry is that my hotels are too budget & basic for some people's expectations & taste.

That part of town has mostly Mexican owned 3-stars, no resorts to speak of, and none of them are part of international hotel chains that I am aware of.

South of the river, around Olas Altas and Playa Los Muertos sometimes called Old Town or Zona Romantica is extremely safe and friendly in my experience, which includes many many trip, some of them solo.

Molino de Agua
Casa Andrea
Hotel Eloisa
Hotel Playa Los Arcos
Tropicana
Hotel Posada Rio Cuale
Hotel Posada de Roger

Or back in El Centro behind the cathedral 520 Matamoros is Cuatro Vientos which is quite charming.

On the beach at Conchas Chinas (just south of Playa Los Muertos) is a very special hotel called Quinta Maria Cortez (a house splitn into unusual and artistic studio suites, some with ocean views). This one the priciest of my suggestions but very unique.

If you are looking for someplace very special and you don't mind a B & B, then I can highly recommend Casa Amorita. We recently spent 2 nights there and felt very pampered. It is about 4 blocks from the Malecon and a 20 - 25 minute walk from Los Muertos. It is in El Centro (we paid about 190 pesos from the airport and 90 pesos to return to the airport), yet back far enough from the hustle and bustle of the main drags in a safe, residential neighbourhood. Returning to Casa Amorita after a day of shopping and cruising around downtown PV felt like returning to an oasis of peace and tranquility.
The gourmet, homemade breakfasts were incredible and Rita, the owner goes out of her way to make recommendations (especially for great local restaurants) to her guests.
We paid $115 US/night, which we felt was money well spent.
Check out the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor.com.

Wow you guys have been so helpful! I'm going to check these out & let you know what we decide. We aren't going until October but half the fun is the planning. Thank you for your suggestions!
