Help?!? Marriott or Intercontinental Hotel in San Salvador?

I am a woman who will be traveling alone to San Salvador for the 4th of July weekend? I would like to be able to walk places, and I am wondering if the Marriott or the Intercontinental would be better suited? Is one in a better location than the other? Does one have better restaurants? ANY suggestions would be appreciated...I'm running out of time! thanks!

Hello Beethova ,
Just returned from El Salvador .
To the best of my knowledge there is no Marriott in El salvador . We stayed
at the Real Intercontinental Hotel and it was fantastic . I am aware that is advice is too late for you but I hope it may help other travellers.

The newest (by 30 years?) and the nicest luxury hotel in San Salvador is definitely the Hilton Princesa in the zona rosa. The zona rosa area is cool to walk around with shops and cafes with plenty of security arounf. We use this hotel as our base of operation for the whole country. The resturants are great. its a 5 star hotel for around $120 a night. we ll back in mid july. the second choice is the radison, its nice and newer and good area. There is no longer a Marriott hotel there. the intercontinnetal is 1960 vintage!

You could also check out the Villa Serena hotels - I stayed at one when there for a forum a few months ago - the owner is a super lady and can really help you find your way around... She's the president of the Small Hotels Association and very active in tourism... check out their website: http://www.hotelvillaserena.com.sv/vfb.html

Cheers,
Andrew

The Marriott was bought out by Hotel Presidente who then sold to Sheraton. The Sheraton is located in San Benito, just blocks from the Zona Rosa. It has a GORGEOUS pool and a great brunch. Rooms are nice too. The Presidente, although it has great food is also in close proximity to the Zona Rosa where there are many fine restuarants.

My suggestions: Cuattro Gati- Italian fare on Calle La Reforma. Also, A Lo Nuestro almost right across the street. A Lo Nuestro offers gourmet fair with Salvadoran traditional stylings... You've GOT to try their steak and lorocco sauce. Incredible.
