Has anyone brought back wine from Argentina
So has anyone brought back like a case of wine from Argentina into the U.S. lately. Did you buy it from either a store in Buenos Aires and had them pack it for the plane or did you buy it at duty free shop after you checked in your bags. I have carry on luggage, so will not be checking my bags. But if I buy it from in town I will have to check it in (I don't think I can put it in my luggage -backpack for carry on.(is the wine in the stores in town cheaper or is it the same price as at the airport. Thanks for your help. Alana

I brought back a case (6 bottles, not 12) in July, but the rules have changed for liquids/gels since the most recent terrorist plot was foiled. I don't believe you will be allowed to bring one bottle on board, much less a case. You may want to check with your airline to confirm the rules in effect for flights from Buenos Aires to the USA.
I bought my case of wine in town. Prices at the airport vary. The duty free shop has lower prices than the shop in the lobby near check in.....The duty free prices for Luigi Bosca Reserva were about the same as in-town. I'm not sure about other offerings....

If you bring back wine, do ship it, separately or as baggage. TSA will take away any and all bottles ... as I learned last Friday in O'Hare flying back from Venice. I made the error of buying bottles of cognac in Brussels airport. TSA made a huge issue of it when I passed through screening. I thought they'd eased the rules, but no, still no bottles. Good luck.

I am a bit of a wine shopper, but recently, I put all my "shopping" on my luggage and check it in. However, you are allowed to buy anything you want after you passed security (at least that's how it goes here in London). However,I know there are some restrictions if you are flying to the US but you can usually check those on yr airline website. As for the freeshop in B.Aires, I find it pretty good actually. I found the Ruttini and Angelica Zapata cheaper in there. There are not that many options of "bodegas" - they usually sell a couple of wine producers, but there is a good range of wines available for each wine producer...

Thanks for your replies. I will call Delta. I have carry on luggage so I'll check about getting wine packed in town for flying airlines and then check it in. I don't think we can buy at the duty free shop. It's good to know that the duty free won't gouge the price. Alana

My husband recently traveled to San Francisco from BA a few weeks ago. He bought the wine at a store called Winery and told them he was traveling abroad-- they packed it like it was going to the moon with each bottle wrapped in foam and bubblewrap and packed in a box. Then when he got the airport, he had the whole thing wrapped in plastic. He said the box made it from BA>DC>Denver>SF in one piece with just some of the plastic torn off of the box. Since this was part of his check-in, there was no extra charge. I'd recommend this way if it is an option for you.

Thanks for all your replies. I have heard of The Winery and it's good to know they'll pack it. I can't find the wines I'm looking for in my city so I want to purchase them in BA. It sounds like the airport will wrap it in plastic when I check in, is that correct. Thanks. alana

Just a thought, but I think some states allow you to bring wine/liquor in and others don't. Not sure I'm correct about this, but it might be a good idea to check what the liquor laws are in your state.

The key is packing the wine and declaring it as luggage. Do not attempt to carry it through security - TSA will take it all away from you. No argument or pleading will change this. You are not allowed to bring bottles onboard the plane!!!!!! Period.

I'm sorry--just have to comment. Every time I glance at this thread title, I think it says: Has anyone brought back WIFE from Argentina? Don't know why I keep doing that! Kind of a funny thought. . . .or not!
I guess that could work a couple of ways. . .going there to get a wife--or taking the one you have and leaving her there!

A friend from Argentina came to see me earlier this week. He brought 12 bottles of Luigi Bosca with him, in checked luggage that he had wrapped in plastic at the airport.(he has several friends in the US...not all the Luigi was for me...sigh...)He cleared customs in Houston and my 3 bottle share is stashed in my "wine cellar."
