Golf in Manuel Antonio?

Can anyone confirm that there is a golf course, available to the public, in the Manuel Antonio area (ie: within a taxi ride)? I know there is one about an hour away, but I'm hoping to find one closer. We are staying "minutes" from Quepos.

We will be spending the first week in Manuel Antonio, then the second up in Arenal. Ultimately what I am trying to determine is if we have to rent our car in Manuel Antonio so that my friend can golf, or if we can wait and rent it just for Arenal.
During some web searching I found this link to a golf "tour": http://www.manuelantoniopark.com/mapk/english/golf.html We already have a place to stay, so I don't think we want a "tour". On that website I looked at the hotels listed and found one hotel that advertises golf: La Mariposa. I am having a hard time figuring out an exact location of this hotel and really confirming that the course is available to the public (the tour lists a rate for "non-hotel" guests).

Thanks in advance!
Rose

I'm an avid golfer (2-3x a wk in the summer) and unless there is some new development I don't know about, the only golf on the pacific side is up in the Guanacaste region or at the Marriott Los Suenos near Jaco. The Marriott would be a drive (though possible) just to golf and forget about the Guanacaste area....definitely too far. As much as I love golf, I've never golfed in CR the 4x we've been there....there are just so many things to do that you could never do at home!! I have stayed at La Mariposa in MA twice - there is no golf there. Most of the people staying there last time we were there are fishing out of Quepos.
Hope this was helpful!

I checked the Mariposa site just to be sure - it has been a year since we were last in CR - but saw no mention of golf on their site.

We stayed right across the street from La Mariposa, and I didn't see a golf course there.

Here is where I saw golf listed for La Mariposa:
http://www.1costaricalink.com/eng/ho...p-maripo-3.htm

Very strange indeed. Thanks everyone for the information, it makes a big difference in our trip, we're going to need to figure out a plan B. My friend is in the Army deployed to Kuwait, and on her R&R, so a chance to golf is very important!

Any chance that a golf course in San Jose would be open on Easter Sunday? We're assuming not.

Sorry Rose! Have you booked your vacation?? I can't remember how far the drive is between MA and Jaco but i know it's over an hour....if you haven't firmed up your plans, I was going to suggest the Guanacaste region - there is golf there and even though it is a bit "built up" with the big resorts, you could do a day trip to Rincon de la Vieja Nat'l park and Palo Verde River...I have a feeling you are booked though

Do the little bullets next to the items listed mean that's something they have? There's no little bullet next to Golf, so maybe they just put the little icon by the amenities they have. It's confusing the way they show it.

I think you guys are right, those dots seem to indicate they have the ammenity, and golf doesn't have a dot.

But look at this one, it definitely lists golf
http://www.manuelantoniopark.com/map...sh/hotels.html

I tend to believe the person who stayed at the hotel over a web page, its not like you could really miss an 18 hole golf course!

I asked for a price for this "golf tour" that says there is golf in MA, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

stef270, yes, our lodging is booked. I heard that the golf couse (I think it must be the one in Jaco) was 45 mins, but I will do some further research. We will just have to have the rental car while we are there and she will just have to drive a ways.

We will be driving back to San Jose on Sat April 11 from Arenal, so if we left really early in the morn, she *might* be able to get some holes in in the afternoon. We will be in San Jose on April 12, Easter Sunday and Kathy will leave on Monday - we just don't know what time yet as the Army will be booking her flight. So golfing in SJ doesn't hold much hope either.

Muchas gracias a todos!
