going alone to San Blas

The two guys that I am traveling with do not want to go to the San Blas islands. I am thinking of going there alone for one night and staying at the Dolphin Lodge or Sapibenga-I am adventurous but I still was wondering if I will I feel uneasy staying by myself (I am a single girl). Are there usually other guests at the lodges? Do the bungalows have doors that lock?

My husband and I spent two nights at Dolphin Lodge in January. I would feel safe there by myself, but isolated. They assign seating and everyone was at tables with just their group. One night we were the only English speaking people there (others were from France and a large group from Finland).

No locks on the doors, and even if there were, the windows are wide open, as in no glass or screens.

We loved San Blas. The Kuna indians are a fascinating group.

Jean,
Thanks for your reply.
If there is no glass/screens in the windows- is there a problem with bugs in the room?

Surprisingly, there were no bugs at all in the room. No bites at all. There was a gecko in the sink every morning though....

My husband got bit up on the small island we went snorkeling on. He got off in the grass to take pictures, I didn't have any problems there either.

hi

i went with a few friends to san blas in dec. 2004. i am glad i went but i was surely glad to leave. it is extremely primitive and we got ripped off for $35.00 per night per person. i've been alot of places in the world but san blas really gave me culture shock. good luck!

You got to experience culture shock for the piddly sum of $35 and you're complaining? People pay hundreds and thousands to have that experience.
