Going to Tulum in May. Flying into Cancun and staying in Tulum for 4 days and then to PDC for 4 days and then unfortunately home. Is it worth renting a car to get to Tulum and then up to PDC. Seems that the rides to Tulum can be expensive and renting a car seems more cost effective. Is the drive easy?

You can get an ecomony car for the same $$$ as a transfer for 2 to Tulum. You'll be happy to have the car and explore on your own.

You should consider renting a car in Cancun. I think you will find the car will give you the freedom to explore the area (Coba ruins, various cenotes, Sian Ka'an, etc). Executive worked well for us.

I totally agree with the past two posts. This gives you so many more options on things to do and see and the ride down from Cancun is on a straight, 4 lane highway. Enjoy, wish I was going back myself. Also, ask the locals about some of their favorite spots and take advantage.

We rented a car when we were there last month. The roads are well marked and good. We loved the flexibility. I second the trip to Coba (if you like ruins.) Road is adequate and you pass thru a few small towns that are interesting to see. Lots of speed bumps
along the way.
