Flu Shot Availability in NYC
Where can one get a flu shot in the NW Bronx or Yonkers in preparation for leaving for South America on November 7th? I am 67 and have asthma so I think I qualify. My doctor hasn't received the serum todate and doesn't know when he will get it.

You know, I'm not giving medical advice here, but given that the climate is different in South America and that the calendar seasons are reversed south of the equator, does flu season there even correspond with flu season in the U.S.? And are the strains of influenza anticipated in the U.S. (and included in the vaccine here when it arrives) the same ones that are anticipated elsewhere in the world? I'd ask the doctor about that.

I have heard about how the USA is going to be very low on their Flu Vaccine supply this year.
You have Asthma.
How bad is your asthma?
Do you take inhalers?
Have you had an Asthmatic attack...if so what did you do for it.?
Are you prone to getting Pneumonia..because there is a Pneumococcal Vaccine.
Did you get the Flu Shot last year?
Did you get the Flu last year?
Will answer more when I get some information from you.
In any case your doctor in New York is your best advisor.
Isn't Yankee Stadium in the Bronx!!

Even if there are different strains of influenza in South America, one of the benefits of getting a flu shot is that it gives you some protection against catching the flu right before leaving on vacation. It would be awful to catch the flu and then leave on vacation already sick. Of course, there is a flu vaccine shortage right now in the US. But if you are in a high-risk group, then I think it would be wise to get the shot. Maybe you can contact the county health department to find out if they are offerring a flu vaccine clinic to those who qualify.

The American Lung Assoc. has a flu shot locator. Find a clinic near you by entering your zip code:

Gecko,
You are great!
I contacted the website you mentioned and found a place a couple of miles from home that will give me the flu shot tomorrow. I never would have found the wbsite without you.
