KC I am afraid you will find the typical flower arrangements rather "heavy"looking even reminiscent of funeral arrangements. I have spent Valentines Day in Zihuatanejo the last 3 years & the whole town is covered with balloons, hearts & flowers but the flowers arragements are just not very attractive.

I have bought bunches/individual stems from the buckets available at the florist and made my own arrangements.
I agree with above that the premade ones have an extreme FTD look to them.
So yes you could buy things like gladiolas, tuberrose, ginger, birds of paradise, mums, carnations, roses (are the ones I remember seeing most often). Generally speaking I would also say yes they are comparable to the U.S. cost-wise.
BTW you can find great ribbon by the yard at the fabric shops!

If you turn towards Pittial at Sam's and turn right at the first light, there is an outdoor fruit and vegetable market. park there and go inside. There is a flower shop at the opposite end of the fish area. They will do anything for you or sell you just the flowers. The prices are incredibly cheap.

The florist that jendam mentioned is called Frissia and is located in Mercado Palmar de Aramara, Loc. 83 and their phone number is 22-5-32-21. It is very nice local floral shop. They only carry certain flowers daily - not everything you are looking for - they may have to order.
I would suggest that you try Floreria Lucy - located at downtown behind the Pemex gas station on Peru Street - Ph. #22-2-61-30 - they speak english here - at Frissia they do not. They also have a shop at Plaza Marina, Local C-4 which is by the airport.
I use both of these florists exclusive for my wedding clients and have never been disappointed nor have my clients as they love their work and their prices are very reasonable.
