Flights within Belize and to Cancun

Hi again..i am looking into booking my flights when we arrive in Belize..The first flights i need will be Belize City to San Pedro (Ambergris Caye) return...There is the choice of Tropic Air or Maya Island Air..Which should i use?? The Maya Island Air shows there are 2 stops...i emailed them and they said it only stops if there are passengers to p/u?? I wonder if Tropic Air also stops (it does not show stops on their website)? Where would they be stopping (they never said)??

I am then looking at booking the new flight with Maya Island Air from Belize City to Cancun..anyone been on this flight yet?? As i am still deciding whether we should fly or take the bus. Thanks

P.S...the reason we are going to Cancun is our flight home to Canada leaves from Cancun via Mexico back to Canada on Mexicana...This flight was very cheap so we thought we would spend a few days in Playa del Carmen before we head back home!!

Tropic and Maya stop at Caye Caulker, and that's only if there are other passengers to drop off or pick up. You will not be down long. It's really quick stop. Only 7-12 passengers fit in plane.

I have not taken a flight from Belize City to Cancun. Sounds like a plan though! Although a bus would be cheaper, a flight would be faster.

After 20 or so flights from BZE to San Pedro, I have to say we've only stopped at Caye Caulker once, maybe twice. The couple of times we have flown to Caye Caulker ourselves it was in a four passenger plane with just two couples heading to Caulker.

The other possible stop I'm guessing would be Caye Chapel. I've never stopped there.

Now, if you decide to take a cab from BZE to the municipal airport and fly from there to save some money, you may well end up flying back to BZE to pick up more passengers, then on to San Pedro.

If you're only going as far as Playa del Carmen, you might as well take the bus. That takes an hour off your bus ride. If you fly to Cancun, you'll have to backtrack.

Ok Jean.. if we take the bus..how does that work again??...We have to fly to Corizol..then hire a transfer to get to the Mexican Border, then take the bus from there right??? But isn't it 5 hours if i remember correctly, whereas the flight is only an hour or so???...But u are right..then we have to backtrack back to Playa del Carmen..hmmmm decisions!!! lol...

Maybe i will go back to the bus and save some $$$'s for my next trip!!

Yes, the flight would only take an hour from BZE to Cancun. However, there's the potential for customs/immigration to take another hour or so. Plus, having to get back to Playa del Carmen. I would prefer the bus, simply to avoid an extra stop at the Cancun airport.....Not to mention all the money saved.

Our first trip to Mexico we stayed in Cancun. Hated it. The days we weren't touring Mayan ruins, we took the ferry and spent our time on Isla Mujeres.

Cancun is too much concrete and too Americanized for my taste. I prefer B&B's and smaller hotels in general, Cancun just isn't my travel style. Although I didn't realize it at the time.

we were very happy with Tropic Air within Belize. But, I don't know if you need to worry about reservations. I don't know when you are traveling, but it seemed pretty easy to just show up, and get on the next flight.
