Bus from Yucatan to Belize?

Hi! I'll be attending a wedding south of Cancun this summer and then I would like to travel down to Belize. I've heard you can take a bus. Do you have to get on in Cancun or are there stops further south? How long does it take? Do I have to get on a new bus at the boarder to get to Belize City? Thanks for the help!

You can catch a bus in either Playa del Carmen or Tulum. Probably other places as well that I just don't know about. I think it was between two and three hours from Chetumal to Tulum. We were coming from the opposite direction, we had flown to Corozal on the Belizean side of the border, then took a taxi across the border and to the bus station in Chetumal. If you're heading to Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker, I wouldn't go to Belize City. Either fly or take a water taxi from Corozol to San Pedro. Easy and much faster. Jean

Yes, you can get a bus in Cancun City to Chetumal, about 6 hours. Or you can go from the Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen and get a bus there, about 4 1/4 hours from Playa.

In Chetumal, you change to a Belize bus (Novelo's or Northern Transport) to cross the border. You can usually switch buses at the main terminal, though the early morning buses to Belize leave from the New Market rather than the main terminal.

You can either get off in Corozal Town and fly or water taxi from there to San Pedro, or you can continue on down the Northern Highway by bus to Belize City (3 hours or a little more).
