first time in Ixtapa

We'll be going to Ixtapa for the first time in Jan. is there anything we really shouldn't miss seeing while we are there? We will be staying at Posada Real. Any one ever been there?

Head out to Ixtapa Island, check it all out not just the drop off point and do a little snorkeling. Head to Zjuantino (spelliing?) and go to fishing dock. Lots of small markets too.

We loved Ixtapa so much that we went back twice. The weather was great (November)and the sunsets spectacular. Spent more time in the pool than on the beach as the waves/undertow were quite treacherous. Stayed at the Presidente and partied at Senor Frogs. The shopping was great in Zihuataneo. Went to Isla Ixtapa for the day and the snorkeling was excellent. I loved it!!!!

We've been to Ixtapa sevreal times and really like it. Our favorite hotel is the Westin Las Brisas. It sits alone on a bluff with what amounts to a private beach just before the bustle of Ixtapa. The Posada Real is on the "strip" in Ixtapa and is fine if you're into the crowds and nightlife. Our favorite restaurant in Ixtapa is El Faro. It sits on a cliff overlooking the water. Be sure to try expolre Zihuataneo AWAY from teh tourist areas.

We had an excellent time in ixtapa. The resturants on the bluffs are worth the little extra money just for the sunsets. The island is a change of pace. Snorkel near wehre you get dropped off if your into that but make sure to walk over the small hill from where you get dropped off by the ferry and enjoy a fish taco and rent a jet ski for awile. Near Carlo's and Charlies is a swim with the dolphin place. It is a few bucks but if you have not done it before it is an amzing thing to interact with them. Do the resturants at teh marina in "Z". After dinner go up into the tower that is there (you can't miss it) for a drink and listen to the piano bar guy. What a kick. If you are like us we had a few drinks and started singing with him, as did most of the bar.
