Thanks for the good news regarding the safe...we are mainly concerned about the camera & lenses. If you have any pictures of the inside of the house, we'd love to see them!

Playa Nicuesa would be better with kids I would think, though there is still plenty of walking in the dark, cabinas are not 100% enclosed etc but it is all flat and very easy to get to the Orquideas Gardens and the Refuge. Trails could've used some upkeep and guides were hit or miss but pretty nice place to stay and good food.

Really surprised to hear of the incident at BdC. I've always just left stuff out and about and never thought about it.

Finally getting to read some of these current reports! Sounds wonderful and love to hear about Black Turtle as I consider staying there one day...Sounds like a great place! I'm surprised to hear about the thefts too...but I guess it's bound to happen just about everywhere at some point. We left all of our things out at BDC as well. Camera, passport, etc. Counting the days now as we leave for CR on the 22nd. So much to do!

I want to manage your expectations about Casa Blanca because it wasn't exactly what I had in mind. I was a bit disappointed when we first got there but it grew on me and now I would have a hard time staying in a cabina with the kids because having room to spread out and the huge deck were so nice. There is a reason there aren't many pictures of the inside of Casa Blanca, it is really dark and there really isn't anything to it. The deck is what makes the place. The master and 2nd bedroom are pretty much identical in size, one has a big bed and the other two double beds. Everything about the inside is very basic but clean. Bring a travel mirror to use outside and some tea light candles, I used them in the bathroom to see, plus it adds to the general feel. Casa Blanca had plenty of hot water which was fabulous, much better than I expected. The kitchen and living room are fine, but not places we wanted to hang out. What I will do re: photos of BDC Casa Blanca and Black Turtle Lodge is post reviews with pics on Trip Advisor so check there in a day or two.

aqualime, thanks for the description,it is better to have set expectation lower.I would be probably disapointed same way you were. Now I know what to expect. We all be hanging outside on the deck anyway.Good think it is covered,so we will not get rain out.I hope it is not cold when it rains,I am just always cold.

I am always happiest when I have lower expectations and then am pleasantly surprised. I can't imagine ever being cold there, although it actually wasn't as hot as I had expected. If you are always cold just pack a light sweater and you'll be fine. Have fun!!

Hi from yet another BdC fan. We had an amazing trip to CR in February, alot of it due to the very informative posts on this web site. We were able to go very well prepared, I thank you all. Aqualime, I'm sure I was at BdC the same time as your family. Remember the lady at your dinner table the first night who had the daughter the
same age as yours? That was me. Great to read your trip report, I'll look forward to seeing your pictures on tripadvisor. I should post some of mine too. Thanks to all for being so informative, can't wait to go back again.

Hi! Yes, I do remember you. Glad you had a great time as well. I did put in trip reports on Trip Advisor today, much the same info as I wrote here. I don't know how long they take to post. My photos of Casa Blanca will give you an idea of what the rooms are like, but they aren't all that great. If I had known there would be so much interest I would have done a better job. Jilkovina, it will be up to you to get some better pictures!

Hi aqualime - were you ever able to post your photos of Black Turtle Lodge? I'm considering staying there for a few nights - but wouldn't mind seeing some more candid shots. I've seen the ones on Trip Advisor - but want more! Thanks...

Do you have to have to time both the Pacific Trail AND the Golfito(?) trail by the tide? I can't remember...

No, only the Pacific Trail needs to be timed by the tide. I think it might be easier to get to each of the Golfo Dulce beaches during low tide (ie not having to return to the access road to get from one to another) but the swimming is probably better at high tide.

I put the better photos I have of the Black Turtle Lodge on Trip Advisor, the rest are repetitive or show my hideous hair, I am addicted to the blow dryer at home!! I would be more than happy to answer any specific questions you have regarding Black Turtle Lodge. Maybe if you tell me what you are looking for, I can tell you if it fits the bill.

aqualime - I will have to go check out your TA review of BTL as I've been curious of that lodge for a while. Those rooms built in the trees look cool.
