Experiences at Royal Hideaway Playacar...good place?

We are seriously considering staying at the Royal Hideaway Playacar next April for a week on our honeymoon. Our main goals for our honeymoon is to relax and enjoy the beach. Anyone have experiences with this place? Good food, nice rooms, how is the beach?

This is a truly beautiful resort. However, the beach was severely damaged a few years ago and they are in the process of a reclamation project. I was there 5 years and again 2 years ago and I saw the difference in the beach. Last time there was not much of a beach. Check with other Fodor posters to see what progress has been made.
As for the food and rooms - the food is first class and the rooms were wonderful also. The grounds are immaculately kept and the staff aims to please.

As stated///the resort itself is great, but the beach is not. There has been severe erosion.
For luxurious adults only resort, look into the Iberostar Paraiso Grand and Secrets Maroma.
If you want to be right in town, look into the Royal Playa del Carmen.

Both the Iberostar Paraiso Grand and Secrets Maroma are right on the beach.
The IB Grand has ocean front rooms in buildings 70 and 71.
Both beaches are big and beautiful, but there are some rocks at the ocean entrance at parts of the Iberostar.
Secrets Maroma is on one of the most beautiful stretches of beach.

We stayed at the Iberostar Paraiso Grand in Building 70 right on the beach. If beachfront is important to you, then that is what you want. The Secrets Maroma is set back a little more from the beach. I agree with schmerl 100 percent - Secrets Maroma is on one of the most beautiful stretches of beach. IMHO I don't think you could go wrong with either hotel.
