Esperanza or Casa del Mar ?--Help me choose
Going to Cabo in late Sept with my husband for a hopefully romantic, relaxing weekend. Trying to choose between Esperanza & Casa del Mar. Any comments would be helpful, especially if there's anyone who's been to both. Must have a pretty pool area, updated rooms, & great service. We plan to mostly sit by the pool & relax & maybe play golf one day. We love hotels like the Four Seasons. Esperanza is more expensive & I'm wondering if there's a reason.

I have seen Esperanza, but not Casa del Mar and have stayed at Palmilla. You should assume there is a reason for the additional price. We LOVED Palmilla and I'm a true blue 4 Seasons fan. I've stayed at Punta Mita and would take Palmilla over it any day. I prefer the accomodations at Palmilla to Esperanza.

Palmilla was one of the original properties in Cabo and they have one of the prime peices of ocean front property. No matter where your room is you have a fabulous ocean view- and the rooms are all incredible. The property also benefits from planting that's been there for years. Theyv'e done a wonderful job of renovations. As I said, I've only seen, not stayed in Esperanza, but the property, although smaller, doesn't have the same luxe feel to me and a number of the rooms are set well back. Same goes for Punta Mita. I wouldn't stay anywhere but an ocean front room in Punta Mita.

I'm now answering my own question. My husband & I stayed at Esperanza at the end of Sept.'05 and absolutely loved it. The property is beautiful, with stunning views, especially from the restaurants and pool. Our room was very spacious, around 900 s.f. and very luxurious and beautifully decorated. Excellent service. We played golf at nearby Cabo del Sol and loved the course. One reason I decided on Esperanza is that it is small, only about 56 rooms and you have to be 16 to use the hotel pool which is a big plus if you are travelling without children. I would definitely recommend Esperanza.
