derek - personally, no, I've never taken anything in my 4 trips.

Glad for you Fran that your question was answered, now you just have to go!

I'll be there the 9th, leaving the 10th--perhaps our paths will cross!
Congratulations--beautiful location for a honeymoon.

We were there in Nov of 05 and had a great time. Regarding lighting, it was inconsistent but we all had LED headlamps which came in handy on night hikes, going to dinner and esp reading. It is a great property and wonderful experience. And, yes, the howlers will wake you up...

Yeah I'm so glad we found Bosque Del Cabo for our honeymoon location. Thanks Google Shillmac I think we will just miss you. We arrive in San Jose on the 9th, and stay that night at Grano de Oro. The 10th we fly Nature Air to BdC and stay until the 15th.

Take care everyone,

Derek

Hello everyone,

What a surprise to find this discussion. I am traveling to Costa Rica for the first time, July 3 to 18, including 5 days at Bosque del Cabo. So I believe I might be seeing some you you there. Small world.

I have 2 deluxe Cabinas for the 4 of us. Plus Casa Tika (the garden house). I plan to use it as a jungle gathering place/wildlife viewing station and "deep jungle" sleeping quarters for any brave enough to leave their Cabina for the night. And the fridge will come in handy.

I know it is a good distance from the Cabinas. Has anyone spent some time there? What is it like?

How muddy might it be in July? I am planning on mud and thinking about bringing some plastic type sandal that I can hose down? Any suggestions?

I chose Bosque after careful research and after reading all these reviews I am glad I did.

We are also spending 3 days at the Lost Iguana in the Arenal area, 2 at the Peace Lodge, 1 at Villablanca Cloud Forest Hotel (I hope a less crowded back door into a cloud forest) and finishing with 4 days at Makanda by the Sea in MA area. Any suggestions? Warnings?

Thanks

Bill

All you lucky folks headed off to BDC soon will love it.

Barriman, regarding shots, my research showed that none are required in that area of the country (malaria is not an issue), but both tetanus and Hepititas A are recommended. We got both of those prior to our trip. They are good to have anyway for people who travel.

Billyar, we didn't stay in the garden but spent lots of time there. Our amphibian shoes worked out great but it was pretty dry when we were there. The walk to the garden is long and across the suspension bridge. Be sure to bring good flashlights.

billyar - you've chosen well, sounds like a great trip. The walk to Teka will take maybe 10 minutes at night at a fast clip, make sure you have flashlights and a back-up as well, many places in CR will re-define your idea of 'pitch dark' A headlamp may be a good idea for the walk back after dinner.

I haven't stayed in Teka but you'll have a lovely view of the Tropical Garden, plenty of coatis I'm sure and plenty of monkeys as well. Bosque is great in that it is a huge property with a small amount of guests, so you never get that crowd you may get in other places whenever a troop of monkeys or the like passes by.

As far as shoes, I usually bring a good pair of hiking shoes, a pair of teva's and a pair of flip-flops.
