We stayed there with our 9 & 11 yr. old 2 yrs. ago for New Year's week. The food was just awful. The pool was so cold I didn't swim once while we were there. It was difficult to get a reservation for the dining room-felt like they were doing us an enormous favour giving us a reservation! Lack of snorkelling equip. Big unsightly sandbags in beach area. My kids loved it. mini-golf, all the fries with nacho cheese and ice-cream you can eat, and lots of othere kids to play with. However, this was the first all-inclusive we have taken them to. There are much better choices for your money.

I can't help you with Cozumel. El Coz was the only AI we have stayed at(not includ. Club med Punta Cana in DR yrs. ago which I can HIGHLY recommend we went there twice - 1 wk. then for 2 wks.) We walked down the beach near the El Coz to see the other AI hotels, and were not impressed. We travel alot with our kids-Our preference in the recent past has been mainly small jungle type places in Costa Rica and Belize. But the kids really liked the larger AI idea! (Hubby and I aren't into them as much). The next one we would plan to go to would be in Playa del Carmen-my 1st choice is one of the Iberostars but they're too expensive, so probably the Viva Azteca or Maya will be our choice-I have read only good reviews. Downside is no snorkelling on-site. But can't find a decent AI on Cozumel with snorkelling right in front-maybe the Allegro-you should search for feeback-not sure. We now choose places where there will be other kids their age. When they were younger this wasn't as important. Isn't it fun talking about travelling!!!! Next summer we are going to Australia!

xx: Thanks for all your input! I was actually gravitating toward Playa, but had heard El Coz was a good choice. Last time I checked, the Iberostars were reasonable- have they gone up? My husband thought their property looked good.

Australia, huh? Isn't that major$$? Is the Club Med in DR adults only?

Thanks again!

The Club Med in DR is a family one. Recently they have built a large pool, and have expanded and updated the rooms. Friends of ours who have 3 kids-14, 11, and 8 just returned a 2 wk. stay there and really enjoyed it. you have to like the Club Med type atmosphere, however, and drinks aren't included except at mealtime, and they can add up quickly. Also, no snacks are included. Wevare flying with frequent flyer pts. to Australia, and the Aussie exchange rate is good. The iberostar in PDC is expensive, esp. over spring break when we would go, also we are Canadian (Can$ is low).

We have stayed in several all-inclusives in the Playa Del Carmen area and the best family resort BY FAR was the Barcelo Maya Beach resort. Any of the resorts near Playa won't have good snorkeling if that's important to you. The Barcelo has both good swimming and great snorkelling. It caters to families and is absolutely awesome. It has the best beach ever that is both deep and long. The pools are located right beside the beach so that you can see either area from both areas. It has mini-golf and a very active kids program. It has the best atmosphere for kids yet...they mix really well thanks to the staff and the environment. If you are considering the Mayan Riviera over Christmas/New Year's, I would try Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic first because the Mayan Riviera has unsettled weather at Christmas time but Punta Cana is beautifully hot at Christmas. I gave you several websites to check in my previous post but if you are now considering the DR, here's a great website:
www.debbiesdominicantravel.com
