El Arrayan or The Red Cabbage - P.V.

We will be in PV for one night and dinner that night has come down to either of these. Which one would you choose? Thanks!

I have never tried either one but from what I have read on this web site I would say Red Cabbage everyone recommends it, maybe I will try it myself this time.

El Arrayan is much better, larger place and a far more extensive menu.

El Arrayan is better, larger & More extensive? Well Larger & Vastly more Expensive but by no stretch of one's imagination better!. The Café El Repollo Rojo ( The Red Cabbage( is owned & operated by Lola Bravo a bright spot in the PV scene for over 30 years is IMO the best food in the area. It is consistently praised in both Gourmet publications & budget travel books. I have been going there since it opened in '97 back when I got a choice of tables as the place was so off the beaten path & few knew the way. Today Reservations are highly recommended. Do not miss this experience

I absolutely love the Red Cabbage and go at least once every trip. Don't know a thinkg about El Arrayan to make a comparison, unfortunately. Sounds like they are two very different kinds of restaurants from the comments above?

Thanks for the responses so far. My gut (is that a pun?) tells me to try The Red Cabbage, but we have friends that just came back raving about the steak with mole sauce, and the appetizers at El Arrayan. They did not get a chance to try The Red Cabbage however.
I think we'll do the Red Cabbage. I'll call before we leave as it sounds like the place fills up quickly. I'm getting very anxious to go! 16 more days.

Red Cabbage is a very tiny restaurant in an out of the way location. It is excellent but it is not fancy.

suze,

We don't want fancy. We want good local food that we can't get at home. It sounds like the Red Cabbage would be perfect. Yes? Thanks.

Absolutely, it's a wonderful meal and unique experience! I like that it is off in a different part of town that many people don't visit (residential Mexican neighborhood near where the river makes a turn). The decor is... how shall I say "artistic".

BTW I had an excellent chicken mole there. Have elso enjoyed the mixed mexican plate. Don't miss the spinach "salad". My sister made a meal of the several soups one time. For the less adventuresome, they offer fresh grilled fish or spiny shrimps with vegetables and rice.
