After several post from fellow travelers about bad driving experience,my family denies to drive with me through San Jose.Is there any other way from Arenal to Dominical?

There is no reason to go thru San Jose itself from Arenal to Dominical. Which route were you planning on taking?

If you take the coastal road, you could skip San Jose. The road is really bumpy between Quepos & Dominical but drivable.

Or as others have done, you could drive to the airport, hire a taxi to follow out to Cartago so you don't get turned around in San Jose.

Tully is right on. You could just swing over to Quepos and then head down. Once you hit Quepos the road will really get rough and you will go through little towns. Contact your hotel before you go to ask about current road conditions. You don't want to drive that stretch at night. There are people and animals all over the road.

When going to Dominical from the airport area I actually do like going the Quepos way.
