Rem! You obviously have learned nothing in the 15 years you have been diving. As a person who has been trained to dive (I take you are properly certified) you should not only respect marine wildlife but support those who fight against violaters. You have a moral obligation to do whatever is in your means to help protect it. Posting negative comments like yours shows that you should have your certification revoked, because you are probably one of those people that desecrate the ocean.

On television news and in the associated press is another story of cruelty to these animals. Two dolphins abandoned in what looked like a back yard swimming pool no filtering system and no food brought to world attention by Madre Selva Collective an enviromental Group. They were part of an animal travelling show and left by their unscrupulous operators after coming under investigation for their practices. The two dolpins have been air lifted out Antigua Guatamala by the Army to a 2000 sq. ft. pen in the Atlantic until they can be released back to the ocean where they were taken from just over a year. The sight of these two dear little animals obviously stressed made me realize that the only way to get these dirty operators to quit is not to buy into what they are selling. These animals are not rubber duckies placed in a pond or pool for your amusement they are real and feeling creatures. I vote to ban dolphin captitivity.

I agree with Mary. The only way to STOP this type of so-called adventure tour is not to patronize them. But then again I don't go to zoos either. Can't stand seeing Mother Nature's beautiful creatures caged up. I guess once seeing a beautiful cougar pacing back and forth along a fence in a zoo did me in. Saw it when I was very young & the image has always stuck with me. I really don't understand this swimming with dolphins fascination that humans have. WHY ??? To say you did ? Big deal. I'm sure they're not nearly as thrilled. My two cents for whatever its worth.

The postings I have just read opened my eyes to the sad events happening to the Dolphins. My friend and I are going to Playa del Carmen, Mexico Aug. 2. She is set on swimming with the Dolphins. Would there be another alternative where she and I can be with the dolphins in a dolphin-friendly environment? Your replies would be greatly appreciated.
Joyce and Shari

There is more sad news if you are a dolphin. There is now a swim with the dolphins program in the City of Guadalajara.

http://www.guadalajarareporter.com/cover.cfm

There have been a few post here recently from people wanting to swim with dolphins. One poster even said something to the effect that they did not want to hear any feedback on why not to do it. I think she had her mind made up she was going to swim with dolphins no matter what anybody said and the dolphins be damned. I'M TOPPING THIS FOR HER.

I'm curious to know if anyone here who opposes "dolphin swimming" also feels that animals like elephants should not be kept in U.S. zoos where they cannot roam free in their natural habitats? I realize the elephants aren't subjected to human "interaction" sessions, but isn't it nearly the same issue? Why isn't anyone protesting the zoos of America?

Marlena

Some people are (protesting zoos). It's a real hard line to tread ... without zoos or animal parks, some species would die out. For many people, going to a zoo is their only chance to see an exotic animal.

However, the animals themselves ....

Worth noting, however, is that many animals in zoos were raised in captivity, or are unable to return to the wild due to various injuries, etc. This is completely different than capturing an animal from a perfectly safe environment and placing them in unsafe captivity.
