Shillmac, I kind of did post sort of a trip report for the first part of our trip. It's under "Puerto Viejo How Young" under the screen name of RAL, (my travelling companion and better- half)

Good Lord, I would have had to change underwear!

I kind of hate to do a negative post, and it really isn't one. I still liked Pacific Edge and would stay there again. It's just not for everyone, and we all deserve to know just what we're getting!

There may be a sign out front now, saying "Shillmac--go away!" Ah, I shouldn't flatter myself. . .

I'd love to stay at Cristal Ballena sometime. The time we had the washed out bridge and had to turn back, I wish our taxi driver had taken us someplace like that. We didn't know the area and were pretty much at his mercy. He dropped us at a rather rustic (more so than PE) little place. It was okay and cheap, but boy was it basic. Good thing we don't mind that once in awhile!

Thanks, RHR, I remember now. . .

Not sure if this is too late to help but just came across a few that I hadn't heard of before in that vicinity:

Shelter from the Storm http://www.shelter-from-the-storm.net/index.html

Kiana (opening May 2008) http://kiana-dominical.com/index-resort.htm

Rancho Pacifico http://www.ranchopacifico2.com/

Tully, thanks for that info.

We have a reservation at Hotel Christal Ballena for now. I had run across info on two of the others however, one is not opening until May, 2008 and the other is just too expensive for this trip. The third, Shelter from the Storm looks interesting and I have sent off an inquiry. Thanks. Counting the days at this point.
