Does anyone drive long distances from America to Central America?

When I was younger I always dreamed of driving to Panama from the United States. I thought it would be interesting to drive through Mexico and Central America by car. Now I am a little scared of the expected rough roads and police that could harrass an American Driver.

Anyone with experience driving through Mexico?

Why don't more African Americans take road trips to Mexico?

My dentist (!!) and some of his friends are riding their motorcycles all the way down to Santiago. They're breaking it into one or two week trips, coming back in the meantime to make more money to finance the next leg. I don't think he would do it if it were really risky. (Although I think riding a motorcycle is risky enough.)

I assume your friends know that there is no road connecting Panama and Colombia???? They'll have to have their bikes shipped and they'll have to find other transportation as well.

Yes, they are shipping their bikes. They have spent two years planning this trip and seem to be well prepared.

We were talking to some mexican friends of ours about possibly driving our car down to Costa Rica. They highly advised us not to. They seemed to think it would be too dangerous right now. I know several people that have but it has been a few years since they did it.
