Did Akumal suffer reef damage?
My husband and I are planning to take our 2 kids to Akumal to snorkel and see the sights. I had read that shallow reefs have had hurricane damage, and am wondering if anyone has snorkeled off the Akumal beaches recently?
And, if you have an opinion where is the best snorkeling in the "Maya Riviera"?
Thanks!

The snorkeling off Cozumel is amazing!
We've also been to ScubaMex (scubamex.com), which had some good snorkeling as well as scuba diving.
I have a ton of pics from my trip to the Mayan riviera, e-mail me if you're interested.

We were there 2 weeks ago and the reef was okay. We saw 2 enormous sea turtles right below is. Our guide was fantastic, Gustavo from Falcon tours. He also took us to Yal ku early in the day before it got crowded with tour bus people.

summer04-- if you're out there-- which villa did you choose in Akumal? We are also going in July and can't seem to find much about Akumal villas other than locogringo. Have you (or anyone else) been there before? Just looking for real-life knowledge.
