Cozumel to Tulum...on our own

How difficult would it be for me to plan a shore excursion from Cozumel to Tulum? Our ship does not offer the tour and I really want to go. Our ship docks at 8:30 and leaves at 5:00. Help, please...first time on a cruise. Thanks.

Not difficult at all. Just take the ferry from Cozumel to Playa Del Carmen and then a taxi to Tulum. Stay as long as time permits and reverse. Take along a bathing suit and towels. There is a nice beach just next to Tulum.

The colectivos make frequent runs between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. Just make sure the driver knows you want the ruins, not the town, of Tulum. Cost is only a couple dollars each.

THANK YOU!!! I was nervous about planning the tour on my own but now, I think that I can do it. I have more confidence in my abilities anyway.

It is also possible to take an ADO bus to tulum ruins and the bus station is just up the street from the Coz ferry dock. That might be a little more difficult to schedule but the service is wonderful and pretty cheap.

Cab is the "easiest" if you've never been before but also pretty pricey IMO.

You could take the bus to Tulum pueblo and then taxi/colectivo back to the ruins but you'd be reversing direction. Colectivo would probably be the most direct/cheapest. Taxi's are pretty expensive.
