I can't decide what to do. Right now Costa verde has available a studio plus room on costa verde II and a regular studio room in costa verde I. I know Costa Verde II doesn't have A/C or TV, but has amazing views. Anyone stay in the regular studio rooms? How is the view from there?

We stayed in a studio and I was very disappointed with the room view. We were ground level no less with the sidewalk in front. The deck view was a bit better with a bit of ocean seen.
I had reserved, I thought, a Costa Verde 2 studio. I must admit we were thankful for the AC those 3 very hot March nights. We were in the B family section and were told by staff some other units had less view. If I return I'd go for the view and tough out the heat if I had to take a studio plus in Costa Verde 2. I'd prefer the studio plus in the B sec. w/Ac though. My wife may not agree as the heat is more unbearable for her.

We were in CV and our friends in CV II, both studio plus rooms with fabulous views. Their room was bigger, more open, and had no AC. They thought it was pretty breezy, though, and not uncomfortable. Definitely would always go for that view. It's just stupendous!

Yeah I think we would be really disappointed if we didn't have a view. Our other option was staying at Villas Nicholas. I hear they have a pretty good view too, but lack things like a restaurant and pool side bar.

Unfortunately, I have not stayed at Costa Verde, but we did stop by there to check out that famous view from their pool area. I won't lie to you, it is quite spectacular!

I understand your concerns regarding A/C vs. ocean view. I waffled on that decision myself and ultimately decided not to stay at Costa Verde because of it (and a few other reasons that got factored in...).

We stayed in a deluxe room at Hotel California in December. The room had A/C, a TV, and a private balcony with a pretty ocean view. They have a decent restaurant onsite and breakfast is included in the room rate (you sit out on the deck by the pool and look at the ocean while you eat). The rates were slightly cheaper than Costa Verde and we were perfectly pleased with the accommodations.

I will say that the view from Hotel California is not as impressive as the view from Costa Verde. The hotel is set back farther on the hillside, so you're looking at the ocean from more of a distance. It also faces more towards Quepos and you can't see the MA tambolo from there.

I guess I just wanted to offer you another option if you decide Costa Verde won't meet your requirements. Lots of people certainly do enjoy CV, but there are some other viable choices as well.

Agree with you about California. .we stayed there as well and were pleased. After staying at CV, we thought it was probably the better value, BUT I was a little perturbed at the "indifferent" attitude of the hotel staff. As well as with the owner, who didn't win any points with me when, during our visit, he proceeded to say ugly things about other hotel owners in the country. I thought he should focus more on training his staff, and should have said as much. But we certainly did enjoy the room/view. No AC wasn't a problem for the picky one--DH.

We had a great time, relaxing by the pool (we always stay downtown at the Golden Nugget), having that fabulous heart-attack breakfast over at Binion's, enjoying a day at the spa at the GN (oh my, it was wonderful!), and going to a Ray Romano show--lots of fun. We laughed about the fact that we had to receive a phone call from our kids here at home to tell us how the big de la Hoya/Mayweather fight came out. It cost about $800 for a ticket and $50 at least to catch it on pay for view in some of the hotels. So we just relied on our kids who were watching on pay for view here at home. Spent a little time on the strip Saturday evening and Sunday evening. Lost a little money, but not too much. . .had some good shrimp cocktails for $0.99! So that's my LV report here on the LA board!
