Costa Rican weather in December

Hi folks,

Has anyone been to Costa Rica in December? I am considering a trip from Dec. 10 to 17 and my travelling companions are concerned about it being at the tail end of hurricane season. I know the guidebooks say that December is OK but I would love to get actual testimony of people who have been there in early December.

Thanks a bunch!

Thank you roadadvisor. I realize that there are no guarantees in life (especially when it comes to weather) but it's nice to know that we won't get rained on the whole time...

Any additional comments from others are welcome.

We always go during the first two weeks of December. It has been my experience that the rainy season ends Dec. 1st like clockwork, and everything is lush and green.

Rates also increase on Dec. 15th most places. So you can slip in between seasons and save a little.

Hurricanes do not seem to be on track for CR. Last time I recall a problem was Hurricane Mitch in 97 or 98, and we went anyway without problems.

December is a very windy month, although it's not due to hurricanes. It's just (my understanding) from the change in seasons and shift in tradewinds.

You don't say where you plan to go, but December is a very rainy month on the Caribbean side of the country.
