Costa Rica - several questons from a newbie

Planning a trip to Costa Rica in January - staying by the beach at Los Suenos Marriott Resort. If we plan to rent a car - do they drive the same as in the States? or are the cars like in Europe with the steering wheel on the right? Also, since we will be by the beach area, could be book day trips for the Volcano, mineral springs and the rain forest, or will it be to far for a day trip. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

The driving is on the right, same as the states. You can drive to Manuel Antonio to the National Park (closed on Mondays) in about 90 minutes. Arenal is doable but it would make for a lot of driving, very long to do in a day trip.

If possible, do a split with your time between Los Suenos and then staying somewhere in Arenal. That drive would be several hours - not really practical to go there and come back the same day. Arenal has the volcano, hot springs, Cano Negro tour, Hanging Bridges, waterfall - so much to do that it's worth staying for about 3 nights.

Arenal is not doable as a day trip----over four hours each way. I would recommend spending two nights in the area or saving it for next time.
