Costa Rica Intinarary-- Need Help!

Hello,

We will be in CR for 5 nights, 4 full days. Want to do 2 hiking/hot springs days and 2 beach days.

We are thinking of flying in/out of Liberia.

Where would a good location be where we can access Arenal 1st day(volcano/hiking etc) AND Rincon de la Veiga the next day for hiking and hot springs? recommendations on hot springs for after a day hike?

THEN where would be good to stay for some beach time within driving distance for our last 2 days?

Was thinking Playa Hermosa for beach place...Any help/suggestions/recommendations/accomodations and other places would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

It sounds like you've already done your research because you're on the right path. I'm not familiar with the beaches near Liberia but know that Play Hermosa is a popular destination from there. I think Arenal and Playa Hermosa would be a combo for you given the time you have and what you want to do.

Since your time really is limited, you have a challenge. If you stay on the coast near Liberia, you'll be a reasonable distance from Rincon, but not Arenal. Many places offer bus trips to go over to view Arenal at night so maybe that would be an option. It is something like a 10-hr trip. There are many beautiful places to stay that aren't too far from LIR but it seems I've heard some of the resorts are having issues (water/sewer?) so you may want to do some research before you make your reservation. I believe there has been at least one closure, but I could be mistaken.

Maybe you could fly into SJO, spend a couple nights in Arenal and then finish up on the coast, leaving thru LIR.

On a short trip, it'll be tight but if you fly into SJO and out of Liberia it may be a little easier. Arenal will take you about 2.5 hours from SJO. To max time I'd see if you can get a flight from Fortuna to Liberia then do your last nights there at one of the nearby beaches.
