Costa Rica in May - questions about the rain...

We leave next week for 10 days in CR. Will be going to Arenal and Manuel Antonio. I know its the start of the green/rainy season, but am not sure whether the rain comes and goes throughout the day, or if it typically rains for days on end. I have read conflicting reports, but am comforted by the fact that so many on this board recommend visiting CR during the wet season. We don't mind the rain but aren't sure if we will be able to plan trips in advance and hike much if the rain is continuous. The weather report suggests we will get rain for 8 out of the 10 days we are there. Anyone care to weigh in?

We're headed in to Arenal & MA June for 11 days and have the same issue. Hover, having lived in the tropics, experience tells me it will usually rain some everyday. Most times, for what I've read about CR, it rains in the afternoons & evenings. I am hoping that's the case. Enjoy!

We've travelled to both those areas in the green season. We mostly got showers in the afternoons. We did activities early in the day, headed inside when it rained, and usually it was cleared up again by dinner. We packed a couple of those disposable type rain ponchos that we carried with us when we went out hiking. It was really nice to have those at the Hanging Bridges because we got stuck in a deluge there. The heaviness of the rain varied. That day, it was a downpour and other days just drizzle. We love the rainy season though because everything is green and beautiful, and you can get some good discounted rates on lodging. Check out www.costa-rica-guide.com for weather info. during specific months.

Thanks! We picked up ponchos and have umbrellas. It's supposed to be pretty warm, so regardless of the rain, I think it will be nice.

These days the rain comes every day for about an hour in the early afternoon. It's quite heavy, but it doesn't last long. You kind of plan around it.

September and October are when you start getting rain 24/7 for days at a time.

Have a good trip.
