Costa Rica in June?

Hi. I'm planning a vacation for the first week of June and hoping to get some first-time surfing in. I understand that May is the end of the dry season -- is early June in Costa Rica going to be nonstop rain? I'm fine with the kind of trip where you get up early and do stuff, like explore and surf, and then take cover for showers in the afternoon and re-emerge from hotel later in the day... But nonstop rain would be a bummer. Can anyone give me some advice?

I'd been thinking the Montezuma or Mal Pais area, one or the other, or may 3-4 nights at each. Does anyone have any favorite, inexpensive places that they've stayed? I've read mixed things about the Beija Flor in Costa Rica, although the pictures look great. Los Mangos in Montezuma sounds good too.

Thanks!

Hi cari,

You won't likely hit nonstop rain. Mornings are usually clear with afternoon and/or evening rain showers. It would be pretty rare to have rain all day. The Nicoya Peninsula (where Montezuma and Mal Pais are located) is one of the drier parts of the country. Chances are you may luck out and encounter very little rain on your trip.

Here's a link to a rainfall map for Costa Rica. Move your mouse over the map to view the charts for each area.

I haven't stayed up in the Nicoya Peninsula yet, so I can't help with hotel recs. Lots of people really like that part of Costa Rica, and it is known for surfing so I'm sure you'll have a terrific trip!

Why'd you post the same question twice?

Try Ylang Ylang resort in Montezuma. Amazing spot, 10 minute walk to town, great food, and beautifully landscaped. Monkeys and iguanas galore. Great owners, and yoga daily. Also a spa.
