Costa Rica honeymoon
We are being married Nov. 7th. What is the opinion of the Fodorites on a honeymoon in Costa Rica. Some sites have said that it is the rainy season and yet the Fodor Book states that the Pacific side get only 4" all month. Should we chance it since this is our first choice?? Also--please give me recommendations for reasonable yet beautiful (not all inclusive) hotels for our memorable week. Price is definitely an option. thanks !

I would do a combo of Arenal and Manuel Antonio; it's the most popular combo for first-timers and will give you both volcano time and beach time and allow you to see wildlife. We love the Lost Iguana in Arenal, but not sure what your budget is. They have jacuzzi tubs on the balcony and wonderful volano views. It's a really pretty property. Check out the Mot-Mot Villa at Tulemar Bungalows - supposed to be very nice and at a great price; they have their own beach.

Congrats! We went in early Nov. in 2007 and hit "an unusual cold front". Lots of rain and cold in Central Valley and Arenal. But it is the weather and you cannot really predict if your trip will hit lots of rain or not, so go for it if you would really like to see Costa Rica.
We met a couple on our trip who were on their honeymoon. They stayed at Peace Lodge, then Lost Iguana(?) in Arenal and finally at Si Como No in Manuel Antonio. November will also offer lower rates and maybe some deals. We stayed at lower priced options since our honeymoon was over many years ago
Peace Lodge will be re-opened by then and is a perfect honeymoon stop for a few days.
Punta Islita also looks nice for a honeymoon.
Good luck,
MY

Even one night at the Peace Lodge would be great if you find it cost prohibitive to do more than that. It would be a great choice for either the beginning or end of the trip as it's only about an hour from SJO. You'd just want to make sure you allot a chunk of time to enjoy the grounds and waterfalls. It's a gorgeous location!
