Costa Rica -Central Valley Logistics

In early December we will be in Costa Rica . After spending some time in the Osa Peninsula , we will be flying back to San Jose mid-day at which time we plan to rent a car . Our plan is to make our way towards San Gerardo de Dota that afternoon where we will stay for 2 nights beginning the following day .We are looking for some moderately priced accommodation en route and outside of San Jose . Any ides would be much appreciated . PS- This will be the first visit to CR that I plan to rent a vehicle so not too sure on navigation at this point ...

Do you already have a place to stay in SGdD? We love Savegre Hotel there, sometimes called Savegre Lodge. Marino Chacon is one of the best birding guides we've ever had; his family helped found the area. He found about 10 quetzals for us one morning along the road. It's a pretty property with a beautiful river running through it and lots of hummingbirds. Very chilly at night so pack something warm just in case. They have a great bar area with a fire pit.

Yes , we are staying at Savegre Hotel . I stayed there about 8 years ago and used Marino as well and saw many quetzals . We hope to have a similar experience again !
