Christmas / New Year's travel ideas
We are a party of 2 looking for suggestions as to where we could go for the upcoming holidays. We'd like to keep it under $3000 CDN for 7-10 days (lodging).
Initially we've been thinking about Mexico or the Caribbean.
Does anyone have any suggestions? We would very much appreciate it.

Wow -- that's broad. Since you mention Mexico and the Caribbean, I assume you're looking for beaches? What's most important -- nightlife or quiet? Seclusion or convenience? Culture? Adventure? More info would get you more responses.
Does it need to be the last week of December? You could easily shave $1000 off your trip by going AFTER the New Year. Prices spike for that holiday week, but go back down once everyone's back to work.

We were looking at Playa del Carmen but are open to other ideas. We've seen some great reviews on TripAdvisor about La Tortuga Hotel with the only minor concern being a disco | possible noise but it seems they are addressing that with local authorities.
Do you know anything Playa del Carmen or this hotel?
We would ideally like to spend Christmas and New Year's somewhere to escape the winter in Canada. :~)

Sure, Playa del Carmen's a great beach resort town!
I go to Puerto Vallarta because for me from Seattle it is an easier/closer flight. But if I were heading to the Caribbean side, PdC would be where I'd go.
