Christmas in Belize

My family and I are traveling to Belize at Christmas. I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer for me. Any suggestions on the following:

- Golf cart rentals in Ambergris Caye? Who would you us?

-The road conditions on the north part of the island?

- Tour companies for excursions?

- What currency is recommended to have Belize, Canadian or the US?

- Crime how bad is it?

Can't wait for some good suggestions.

I use Island Adventures and the roads north are rough. Tanisha for land tours, Amigos for water tours. Everyone accepts US$. Like anywhere, the island is relatively safe, but avoid dark, lonely areas. Belizeans are friendly and helpful and you'll start recognizing people after a few days. Enjoy.

If this shows up 3 times, please forgive me. But I can't seem to post today!

Have to add Lil Alphonse for snorkeling. He is truly an awesome snorkeling guide. Went with him twice and both times were fabulous. Best experience ever snorkeling.

Are you only going to Ambergris?

We may take a tour to the ruins but I haven't done any research on it yet. If you have some recommendations please let me know.

Possibly do the river trip to Lamanai from Ambergris. We did not do this, however we had already been inland and seen several Mayan Sites. I have regretted not taking this tour and look forward to it on a return visit.

Tanisha Tours gets excellent reviews for this trip. I am sure there are others, but this is the one I remember most.
