Chichen Itza

Were going to Cancun in November. We'd like a daytrip to Chichen Itza. I know there are lots of large tours we can arrange through our hotel. Are there any smaller tours that might not be so hectic?

My husband and I were in Cancun the first week of July. We tried to book Chichen Itza tours through the vendors at the malls (less price than through our hotel) but was so fed up with all the sales pitches that we ended up renting a car and drove there on our own. It actually turned out to be cheaper for us to go on our own. We had no problems with driving since there's absolutely no traffic and only one highway to get there and back. All in all we had a great time on our own.

I agree with the above post. I must say I am Mexican, but nevertheless I do not think you would have any trouble renting a car, driving to Chichen (large highway) and either taking with you (or buying) a good guide book or paying some of the local guides. More independence, cheaper and very easy to accomplish.

My husband and I were in Cancun in June and we visited the Chichen Itza and Blue Cenotote by minivan with a wonderful guide and driver. Go to http://www.shoretrips.com/ We booked our trip through them, and there were only 8 people in our group. A very good deal considering all the huge tour buses wondering around.

Just remember, its oven hot there. Dress appropriately. I took a very nice large tour to Chichen Itza with Apple Vacations. It was July so maybe it won't be as hot in November

Why not take the bus to the ruins on your own. We did this last year and it was wonderful. We took the bus and stayed overnight nearby the ruins in a small hotel and were there at 8 am when the gates opened. We had the entire ruins to ourselves and a very small hand full of people for about 4 hours. It was awsome and I highly recommend it. You can get the bus back right from the ruins. I would strongly suggest hiring a guide. Our guide was only there for 30 years and it wasn't a job but a passion for him. He really was wonderful and bought the entire ruins to life for us. Email me at [email protected] if you need more info. Wendy
