Caye Caulker

I went to Placencia 2 years ago so I have some sense of Belize already , which I thoroughly enjoyed, and only had positive experiences renting a house through Kitty's Place. I'm going to Caye Caulker for the first week of March very last minute for a family party. This time I'm traveling alone and I'm wondering if I can wait to get down there to find accommodations or if that's too risky? Also any housing suggestions for a mid-range hotel w / good food on premises? Thanks.

Jolie,

Caye Caulker is much more compact than the Placencia peninsula so it really makes no difference if the hotel where you are staying has food service or not. In most cases you will be just a block or so, maybe a few feet, from a restaurant or several restaurants.

I like Anchorage, too. Also Shirley's. Also for cleanliness and comfort you can't beat Tree Tops (about US$35). Lazy Iguana B&B is nice, though fairly pricey (for Caulker). Iguana Reef Inn is the most upscale place on the island, but only around US$90 single, for a suite with queen bed. For something in the middle of things and close to lots of restaurants, Seaside Cabanas or Trends Beachfront.

--Lan Sluder

Jolie-
I just got back from Caye Caulker and San Ignacio(Jan20-Feb 4) and LOVED IT!
I wouldn't worry about finding a place to stay till you get down there...the 2 places we stayed were Tom's Hotel and the Morningstar Guest House. Both are located to the left of the water taxi pier. Morningstar has 2 clean, new rooms that rent for about 38$. You can reach th owner Joanne at the Morningstar @[email protected]. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance(hope you like b-b-q) We like Poorman's, WishWilly's and Dave's. Cindy's cafe has Great Organic coffee! Have fun!
