Carnval 2006

hi,

my friends wanna go to carnval feb 25th weekend. i will probably only be able to take off on Thu and return Sunday. I know the plane journey is itself 12 hours. (we're on west coast CA). Is it worth it? flight is 1000 bucks. Wont' be able to see much of Rio...will need to return to do a sightseeing trip i guess combining argentina/brazil. Any thoughts on a 4 day trip to Carnaval?

Hi there,
It really depends on you. I think 3 days it's not enough specially because it may be difficult to find a hotel for only two nights most hotels book package deals for 4 nights. Are you going to see the parade? Because the parades on the special group is going to be on Sunday and Monday, 26 and 27 of February so if you plan leaving on Sunday you are going to miss them.

This is the link for Rio Department of Tourism website

Personally, I would not want to spend $1000 for just 4 days in Rio, unless you are used to spending that much to get to places. Or are from Rio and are homesick.

What exactly are you going to do, just go to the Carnaval parades & parties? I dunno.....you can get a good party anywhere, you don't need to spend $1000 to go to Rio to do that!

BUT.....that's just my personal preference. I flew there from Hawaii and my flight was 21 hours. I had to change to Varig from Sao Paulo to Rio and that was a hassle as well, so when I look back on the flight hassles alone, $1000 for 4 days would not be worth it for me.

Are you sure you wouldn't see much of Rio while there?

I have been to Rio over 50 times, I used to work for an airline, one time I only stayed one night in Rio and its a night that me and my friend still talk about, a night to remember. We flew there from New York so about a 10 hour flight. We also continued on to Europe the next day. I would say that if you are young, money is not an issue, your strong then go and have the time of your life, Just do it man.
