Car rentals in Costa Rica

Does anyone have a recommendation for a rental company? Also does anyone know anything or have an opinion about Dean Krieg's company "American Car Rental Costa Rica" I think it was formally known as "Dean's 4x4 Rentals". Thanks. Bob

Unfortunately Dean died last year but his rental car company was not particularly reliable. The following link is for research into car rental companies in Costa Rica last year:

Hope it helps.

We have used TriColor on two separate trips and would use them again. There were no hidden fees, but the rate was exactly as quoted. They were very quick to respond to e-mails and also very helpful with a damage claim for a fender bender with a sign - hubby's fault!

Solid and Wild Rider also get high reviews.

Hola Bob!!

We're in Costa Rica right now and have used 2 reliable Car Rental sources.

The first is VAMOS. We started using them 2 years ago after a recommendation from a Snowbird who lives here for 6 months every year. However, you have to book them WAY AHEAD cuz they sell out early. You can speak with a representative on their "Chat Now" link on-line and they have been very, very reliable. If you're coming into Liberia, you'll meet Anibal. We love him!!!

This year we decided to stay closer to Tamarindo, thinking we wouldn't need a car. But, we found we still liked the idea of flexibility. We checked all the rental places here and they were REALLY expensive, so we tried "Rentalcars.com" for the first time ever and got a great deal on a 2-week SUV rental. Picked the car up at Thrifty's, just as if we'd booked it thru them, but a lot cheaper!

Hope this helps!!! PURA VIDA!!
