Maybe. Maybe not. January is very unpredictable in Cancun. My parents went in January and had to wear sweatshirts the entire time. Definitely not beach weather. Then again, you may get great weather.

Went twice in January weather I agree with Dori weather is unpredictable. One minute it is warm & Sunny another minute it is cloudy & cool. Think of it as going to the seashore you never know how it is going to be. Went on Oct 31st last year for a week arrived to rain on our first day then had 6 glorious sunny warm days. So I would say take summer clothes but take a jacket or some things with sleeves. Good Luck

Hi: We'll be going to Cancun for the 4th time this Jan.- we always go in January. Until last year my husband wanted to retire there and become a weather man-- all he had to do was learn how to say 85 degrees and sunny. Last year was cooler and cloudy as it was all over the USA as well. Hopefully, this year will be back to what we expect. Cool there means a long sleeved shirt or light sweatshirt. Have fun.

Last year in January the weather at Playa del Carmen was PERFECT for us!! Never saw a drop of rain and very few clouds. We were surprised however at how cool it is at night. If you plan on being out after the sun goes down, definitely bring a light jacket, long pants, and a couple long-sleeved shirts.
