Cancun - banking downtown

I am looking for info to help a poster on another travel BB. She arrives downtown Cancun and will need to cash U.S. Travelers Checks into U.S. Dollars (long story). Is this something any bank or cambio will do? Or would she need to go to a particular main bank or something? Thanks for any tips for accomplishing this as easy as possible.

any bank in Cancun will cash traveler checks. She will need her passport or a picture ID. Also in Cancun you will find plenty of money exchange places. However, the banks will have the best rates.

You need your passport.
Your picture ID like a Drivers Licence ,will not do.

I showed them a picture ID and they said "no" ,. we need to see your passport.!!!

Thank you for your replies. She is needing to get U.S. Dollar in return - not peso. Still no problem?

Percy what happens if you don't have a passport, not everyone has one. I happen to know that not all banks require a passport, picture ID will do. Also as for the American money, many banks in Cancun have American money. Be sure and ask first. You can also exhange and get American money at the airport in Cancun.
