Cancun & Other Island Experts: Need your advice
I am interested in going to Cancun (other places in Mexico are possible) but really need to know if you'd highly recommend this hotel from your personal experience. Are there other things to do around Cancun other than sunbathe and snorkel, etc?
Interesting sights? I would be happy with those activities for a few days but would like to see other things if possible as I'd be there a week.
Would greatly appreciate your input and suggestions of similar accomodations on other islands if you think they are less "toursity" and of more possible interest. Is the Ritz in a "secluded" location and is it fairly quiet there? It's very difficult to tell from the websites and reviews I've read as they make everything sound like a paradise.
Thank You

Hi Pam,
There aren't really any secluded hotels in the Zone in Cancun. RC is on a very nice beach and is a beautiful property, and I've never seen their beach over crowded.
If you are looking for luxury and seclusion, try Maroma (a posh hotel down a bit from Playa del Carmen).
There's also the Deseo in Playa (but it's not on the beach).
I would also suggest you look at Cozumel - specifically the Intercontinental Presidente. It's a gorgeous property on its own stretch of white sand beach with awesome snorkeling right off shore. There's also a lot to do and see on Cozumel. (On a much less touristy scale than Cancun).
There's not that much to do in Cancun other than shopping and the things you mentioned, but there are a lot of things to do in the region - specifically the ruins at Chichen Itza and Tulum.
Based on the info you posted, I might also suggest one of the luxury villas in Akumal. You can get a driver and a cook along with it, and they are private with many having their own pool.

You know Pam although not as secluded I would like to reommend two hotels in Playa. The ElFaro is very nice, 25 rooms very romantic with many ammentities. The other, not as expensive, no pool but small and very quaint is the Hotel Colibri-you really cannot go wrong with either one.
