I think I've purchased just about every guidebook published on Costa Rica. Like you, I wanted to plan my own trip (I'm leaving in June for a 3-week trip.) My personal favorite is the Costa Rica Handbook by Christoper P. Baker (published by Avalon Travel). It is extremely comprehensive, listing rates, phone numbers, fax numbers, web addresses (when available), etc. It's also a virtual encyclopedia of information on the country, including topics on culture, history, people, government, etc. The latest edition came out in 2001. The New Key to Costa Rica and Lonely Planet are also good.

Hi there,

the most up to date guide book is the one that the Tico Times publishes every year. All places are in there; even the very new ones with phone/fax/e-mail and Internet HP
It can be ordered online :
http://www.ticotimes.net/guide.htm

Cheers,
Andy http://www.orosilodge.com
