My family is planning a trip to Cancun. I have 4 hungry children. Can I bring packaged snack foods into the country? I know you cannot bring in fresh foods or plants, but what about packaged snacks?

They frown on it but will allow it as long as it is packaged. Downtown CAncun has huge hyper-markets where you can buy any snack food imaginable with all major US, European and Latino brand names available

Why do you feed your Kids junk?
What kind of adults will they end up being if they are brought up on a diet replete with high-fat garbage?

Rosie,

I plan to do this too - I think Pringles would be good since you can protect them from humidity. Not everybody rents a car on vacation so can't get to a grocery store. Jose, I'm hoping to get my kids into the Guinness Book of Records (heaviest for their age category) - get over yourself!

Cancun has the best bus system we have ever seen. Costs 40cents. ONe will pass by your hotel every 3 to 4 minutes and can take you downtown in a jiffy. The malls also have a good stock of pringles etc.

Hi Rosie,
When we went to Akumal (terrible vacation, but that's another story!) I loaded a suitcase up with nuts, snacks, candies, and my 18 year old daughter put her mac & cheese microwave in there too! They didn't go through our suitcases going into Mexico, so we got away with it, but who knows! If anything, they would probably just take it away. We all got sick anyway, I think 9 times out of 10 you will. Get bottled water for sure and even brush your teeth with it! If you can stay away from ice, do and don't eat vegys, salads, or any fruit that you can not peel...THIS IS A VACATION!!! Isn't this horrible when we have to worry about these things???
Teresa

Why do you feed your Kids junk?
Do you ever wonder why people who eat that s*** die of such horrible diseases despite having such good medical care?
Is eating Junk food patriotic for you?
I'm glad you're not my mother!!!
You'll have no problem with packaged foods so long as you hit the green light at entry inspection. Should you hit red all bets are off and it will be up to the whim of the day. If disaster strikes, you can replace a wide array of munchies in the mercados, and buses run frequently to downtown. I'm nutrition conscious but on vacation the last thing you want is 4 kids suffering from junk food withdrawal!!!

Good Grief lighten up on Rosie...she didn't say can I bring a suitcase full of "junk" food...she said can I bring some packaged snacks!!! If anything, I would be more afraid of my kids eating something or drinking something down in Mexico and getting sick! Haven't you people ever had a snack...crackers, nuts, dried fruit, yes, even a piece of candy???
Teresa
