Some of the beaches around Cabo are unsafe to swim in because of the strong rip tide. These are all plainly marked. The two times we were there (May & July) there were lots of people swimming around the safe beaches. I don't know what the water temp is in the winter months.

The water temp has fluctuated: in '96 & '97 it was warm, '98 &'99 it was cold. El Nino? Warm water causes hurricanes, and lotsa rain does alot of damage to the area. I have been there in Sept, April, June, so the water temp is hard to predict. Ditto onthe rip tides: my father swam off the Virginia Coast as a kid, but found the Pacific side a challenge! Don't do it!

I love Cabo, but swimming is tough. The water was still cold in late April (even though the air temp was high 90's). Went diving near los arcos (land's end) and had rough currents even 60 feet under. For snorkeling, Santa Maria beach was scenic and spacious, with plenty of fish, but the water was rough and cold.
