Butterfly Sanctuary

We will be arriving in Mexico City the second week of November. We would like to visit one of the butterfly farms, either The Rosario Sanctuary, the Cerro Pelon Butterfly Colony or the Chincua Butterfly Sanctuary, which one do you suggest and where did you stay.
Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

We went to Morelia Nov 6-14 last year to see the monarchs . . . we were too early. We had done extensive research on the web and found that the butterflies arrive at Rosario around the first of Nov (wrong)!

We were very disappointed to get to Morelia and find that that info was just not true . . . we were told (on site) that the butterflies don't arrive until the end of Nov and that the very best time to see them is in Feb.

We ended up going to Patzcuaro and the towns surrounding and had a great time . . . we were a little disappointed that the purpose of our trip was for naught . . . just gives us a chance to return in Feb.

We saw some monarchs migrating through Denton, TX this past weekend, so they're still on the move south.

Buen viaje,
Sandy

Seeing the monarchs was an incredible experience! It was a couple of years ago, and probably in February or March that we were there. Definitely an experience that I won't forget - there were literally millions of monarchs.

We stayed in a B&B in Morelia and enjoyed it a lot. Originally we thought we'd stay in Morelia only a night or so and then move to Patzcuaro. But we enjoyed Morelia a lot (in part due to the B&B) and only took a day trip to Patzcuaro. Another interesting town was Santa Clara del Cobre where we bought some wonderful copper items. Lots of nice restaurants in Morelia. It was a very pleasant city to visit.
