Bosque del Rio Tigre trails
Has anyone hiked the Rio Pizote trail with a guide from Bosque del Rio Tigre?
What was your experience, distance from Lodge,trail difficulty, animal sightings?
Has anyone hiked the 7-8 hours to Carate from the Lodge? Once again how difficult were the trails and worth of the effort.

Hi Earthtraveler, just spent 3 1/2 days with Liz and Abraham there-our 3rd trip to their place. My husband is dying to do that hike and was hoping to be able to go during this past trip (last week) but unfortunately the rains were still coming down really hard.
All I can tell you is that Abraham is an incredible guide and grew up in that area so he knows it very well. If there is something around to see, he will see it. He also knows a lot about the medicinal plants in the area. The trail, from his description, is very difficult with some pretty steep up and downs-almost vertical in some places. We have hiked a couple of the nearer mountains to their property as day hikes and they were tough. We have even tried riding horses up in there and the horses had trouble. Hopefully my husband will get to do it next July when we go back.
We have stayed at several places in Carate and at Rio Tigre as well as places in between. We have done a lot of hiking around there and it is an amazing place.
I saw my first tayra in Feb when we were there hiking around. It was just climbing down the side of a tree. There are anteaters, pumas, ocelots and other things out there as well although most are out at night or around daybreak.

I have not done the exact hike you mention but we did ride on horses over a similar route- our trip did not start in Dos Brazos but it had to cover a similar route- there are only so many ways over those mountains from Jimenez to Carate
There is a lot of change in elevation and a 50 50 mixure of primary and secondary forest.
We saw tons of wildlife but nothing super exotic- did see a fer de lance (SP?) All in all we were glad to be on horseback for the trip- BUT we ride a lot and are used to time in the saddle-some people would rather walk but it would be challenging
You will like Dos Brazos- some of the best hiking in the area is up the creeks
