Bosque del Cabo

I have a question to all of you who have booked at Bosque del Cabo! I booked a standard cabin for 3 nights...they sent me the reservation form to fax back with credit card information, and have asked that I send a cheque to secure it. I have no problem with doing this, however the second email that I received from them asked me to make the cheque payable to a woman's name, not Bosque del Cabo and mail it to a different address than previously listed. This seems a bit fishy to me. When I asked for further clarification, I was told it was because I am mailing something from Canada. My question to you...Has anyone else sent cheques payable to an individual for BDC? Please advise...Thank you, Tanya

I've always sent it to a PO Box in Miami, but if this is Kim or Leonardo or one of the staff asking you to do it this way, I wouldn't be too worried. Maybe for Canadian checks they have a different procedure?

Also, what I did last time instead, was just authorize them to charge me 100% on my credit card so I didn't have to worry about paying the other half when I get there. It worked great cause all I had to pay for was my bar tab & other incidentals.

Thank you Tully, It wasn't either Kim or Leonardo that emailed me, it was Jose L. Just seemed a bit weird to send a cheque payable to an individual to a different address in Florida. If they are willing to charge my credit card, that would make me feel more comfortable. Thanks for the reply. Tanya

btw, I just looked at some of my emails from May and Jose L was one of the people who answered some of my questions. Paying in full by CC is easiest, but either way I wouldn't worry about it. I know the whole payment thing in CR tends to get a little complicated sometimes!

Hello everyone,

I'm so excited to have found what looks to be a fantastic place to stay. I am also planning to stay here and had some concerns about the payment. I plan on having them charge my credit card 100%. I got the form back and it says to fax my credit card number back to them. Faxing my credit card number worries me a little bit as anyone can just grab the number and charge anything they want. Should I be worried or am I a little too paranoid?

Thanks,
Derek Lewis

I really wouldn't worry about it. The office in PJ where you will fax it to is a small office with just a couple employees, like Jose, Leonardo & of course Kim. Just a fyi... the fax # they usually answer so you will hear someone say Bosque then when they realize it's a fax they'll hang up and it will go thru.

I've used checks for deposits (Miami address) and final payment with check at BDC with credit card as back up. Because of the heavy taxes/fees on credit cards this is the best method for them, and allows them to keep their costs from rising.

We are also Canadians and went through the same procedure with BdC Christmas 2007. I agree also with all the previous posts altho we did not make out any cheques to an individual. Jose is one of the employees there and from our experience was most helpful. Everywhere we went in Costa Rica, they did not want to deal with credit cards...I believe the surcharge is something like 13%!!! We purchased US traveller's cheques because the exchange rate was so good. Most places were ok with taking these OR we exchanged them at the banks. We were a family of 6 and it was a much better deal to stay in the houses-Casa Miramar and Casa Blanca(cooking facilities available with food purchased in Puerto Jiminez before taxi-ing to BdC-and WHAT views!) Have a great time there!

Instead of faxing anything back to them, I scan it in to a pdf document and email it back to them.

In the past I also paid my balance with a personal check I took with me that was backed by my credit card.

BdC will accept credit card as payment as long as you let them know the night before that you plan to use that option. That said, they'd prefer you NOT use that option. As for the initial payment, no credit card accepted.

Previous reply directed to jilkovina. Just to clarify, it was our experience in the summer of 2006 (when we were booking for March of 2007) that the initial payment could not be credit card. This came from Leo/Jose and the office in Puerto Jimenez.

If I remember correctly, we later received an e-mail (form letter) stating that, once you arrive at BdC, you COULD pay with CC but they strongly prefer that you not. If you choose to pay with CC ANYWAY, they asked to be notified the night before. I believe the e-mail further stated that there would NOT be a surcharge for using the CC for lodging payment. However, smaller charges such as tours would be charged an extra 6%. I am quoting that from memory so it might not be entirely accurate, but is the way I remember it. . .

All that could have changed in the past (almost) 2 years, of course.
