I've just decided to go to the Yucatan mid-February 2013. I'm wondering when the best time to book my flight would be for the best airfare. Now? Closer to Christmas? After the beginning of the year? Thanks!

Unless contradicted by someone who knows more than I do - about 60 days prior to departure is a good time to book. I don't think the holidays impact this equation. You may not lose anything by waiting until after NYear's but you probably won't gain anything either.

It will also be helpful to say the general area you are seeking to leave from, NE US? Atlanta? Canada?

We book late January flights from to Cancun from Boston every year. We usually book in November, and get good rates. You will find the fares can vary considerably depending on the week you choose to fly. For a flight in February, I would start looking now, I doubt they will go down much. Inexpensive dates may be already booked up.

Just FYI: Some of the most inexpensive dates for airfare from the U.S. are for around September/October (not that that helps if you're planning on going in February already) and the weather is usually great.
