Best Lodging in Tikal

I'm considering a one to two night stay at one of the places inside Tikal Park. Reviews are mixed as to which is the prefered lodging. What are the pros and cons of Jungle Lodge, Tikal Inn and Jaguar Inn? Do most of the guides only accept payment in cash?

Your best upscale bet in that area here...

Owned by movie director Francis Ford Coppola, this lakefront eco–lodge near the Maya ruins of Tikal is the best Guatemalan hotel in the north and is also one of the ...

Yours are all quite underwhelming lots of tourist rooms not great many fake reviews on tripadvertizer so beware.

I have stayed at jaguatikal.com right at the park for
sunrise sunsets it was basic but clean

Guides prefer and discount direct for cash

I always cut out the middlemen and deal direct

Hotels charge more and take credit cards Visa works best

there for me...

Happy Travels!

Tikal Inn is perfectly nice, with basic but comfortable rooms. The pool is a big bonus, and the location is perfect. For a reasonable price, you can get a private bungalow next to the pool.

And, there is no substitute to staying inside the park. None. The birding is amazing, wildlife, being able to explore the park and the archaeological reserve at your own leisure, being there in the early morning and late afternoon when the people staying somewhere else have left.

I agree with RAC. My husband and I stayed at Tikal Inn last winter, and liked it very much. We didn't get Roxy (the most popular guide) for a Tikal tour, but the young man who led our tour was excellent nonetheless - knowledgable, informative and enthusiastic. As RAC mentioned, lots of wildlife, both on the Tikal Inn grounds and inside the park. We liked our comfortable cabin, the desk folks were friendly, internet was complimentary, and the restaurant was very good.

I prefer the Tikal Inn - I like the big nice rooms surrounding the pool (LOVE having a pool!). Archaeologist/naturalist Roxy Ortiz is an awesome guide and guides out of the Tikal Inn when she's not away on a dig. Best to contact her directly: [email protected]

Happy trails!

Anyone know how to make the Tikal Inn website fully functional. I registered, but still can't see a good deal of the site.

We were unable to do so when we booked for February 2010. The email address is good, however.

I think they haven't completed many of the pages so you get a message that says you're not authorized to view it. They updated it a bit last summer (for the 1st time in years!) to add bits about morning tours.

What Hopefulist said. Roxy makes a HUGE difference. I had a regular guide for the evening and morning tours, then Roxy for a trip out to Uaxactun. What a difference!! HIGHLY recommend her.

The Tikal Inn was clean, comfortable and the pool was necessary. It was HOT there in March.

So do any of the 3 lodging choices in the park have 24/7 electricity now. I'm concerned about no fans overnight in May!
