Will you be in Belize on a cruise? I've been to Goff's Caye a few times on day trips from Ambergris Caye. The island is tiny and the snorkeling is OK, but not as good as Hol Chan or Mexico Rocks. What I like about the island is the blindingly white sand, the clump of green palm trees in the middle and the crystal clear warm water. If you're not on a cruise, try to avoid going when a ship is in port.

There are several atolls owned by Colombia out in the Caribbean Sea (most definitely in the hemisphere). Quitasueño Banks, Rosalind Banks, Serrano Atoll, Serranilla Atoll, Roncador, Albuquerque Atoll, and even Alicia Shoal are all very similar to the atolls of Belize and Chinchorro up in Mexico. But not to get off the subject, the atolls of Belize seem like a far way to go for someone on a cruise ship who has to be back on the same day.

Dear NGail,
For a cruise ship stop with kids, there are three options I would suggest..Goff's Caye - Bannister Island - Turneffe Atoll. These can be booked from the ship, but you can enjoy greater savings, smaller individual group size, same great service by booking direct with the many operators available.
Here is a snapshot on each:
Turneffe - best site, but approx 1.5hrs travel time one way over open sea which can be rough.
Goff's - great beach location where you can literally walk from beach into snorkeling. Compost toilet and one shaded palapa.
Bannister Island - snorkeling just 2mins from island. Full service palapa facilities - bar, restaurant, kayaks, fresh water showers, flushing toilets.
I would be happy to provide greater detail about one or all sites. I am an avid diver born & living in Belize and have spent a great deal of time at all these locations.
Regards, Kim
