Bank card

I'll be in BA for a couple of months as of the end of January, and would like to know if my bank card -- PLUS system -- will work in most bank machines.
Thanks!

Yes, but call the bank and let them know you'll be in BsAs.

Hi,

I just spent a month in Buenos Aires. I used my bank card - Plus logo from CIBC in Canada with no problems at ATMs.

My experience has been that whenever I used the machines with the BANELCO sign the maximum they let me take out at one time was 500 Pesos. (my daily limit is more than that - so that's not the issue) Since I pay $3.00 CAD per transaction - more at a time is better. On the other hand, when I used machines with a LINK sign I was able to get more. I normally tried to take out amounts like 990 pesos so to end up with at least some smaller bills.

The topic has been dealt with on Trip advisor and others say that they could only get 500 Pesos no matter which machines, while others said that they could get more even from the Banelco machines at times and the whole thing could depend on the amount of cash available.. However my personal experiences with the LINK machines versus the BANELCO has been pretty consistent

Feliz navidad and enjoy your time in Bs As

Raquel, of course your daily limit is more than that. The problem is that here in Argentina, in most ATM's there is a daily limit of 1000 pesos.
Never heard about this problem with Banelco, as I am able to take out 1000. Must be 500 when you use it with PLUS system??

I use a no fee USAA Visa ATM (nearly interbank conversion rates with same) and had no trouble getting $1800. AR pesos at EZE on arrival in Oct.
The "World Car" remise to Hot Bobo ($65. AR pesos) took my USAA credit card.

Mikemo,
The ATM at the airport - Banco de la nacion de Argentina is a LINK one. I too have been able to get larger amounts at that one.

Actually thats a good tip - get some money as soon as you arrive at the ATM at Ezeiza.

The amount you can take out is variable depending on your home bank's international ATM agreements. With mine, I'm able to take out the equal amount that I'd be able to take out back in New York. I know other people have found limitations - but it's on the U.S. end, not on this end.

Thanks everyone, for the feedback. Great tip about ATM at airport. Think I read that somewhere else, too; likely in LP. Again, merci!
